I also received this in an email newsletter today. To say that I am dismayed is a tremendous understatement.

Quite simply, this once and for all ends any chance Meraki had to change the world. Unless you count driving the early adopters away to form an open source product that changes the world!

Sigh.

Attention Open-Mesh : you are our only hope.

Ok But what are the plans with Meraki ? With recent meraki with changes & prices, can we still call this a community project? don't we just need the right software and some money for the hardware given by the mayor ?

the rest is just a matter of a bunch of geeks motivated

Wireless Philadelphia could be the next municipal wifi network to be taken down, again with Earthlink involved. It wasn't free to begin with, and apparently the Earthlink service was pretty bad. So why pay for bad service anyway. So they didn't have enough subscribers to support the service.

Hey rainerj, you should start by talking to your neighbours, and get them on board. Then have them talk to their neighbours to get them onboard... And at some point in time all disparate networks would join up. But do give it some time...

I ordered my first Open-Mesh router, should get it before Wireless World to demo it! They too are 49 USD, and it drops to 39 USD for a package of 20. Shipping was a whopping 89 USD though (and 97 expedited).
I also have a Linksys WRT54GC (had it for 2 years now) which I can flash with OpenWRT and add Batman/Robin, and try to mesh up with the Open-Mesh router.
